Directors' Biographies

Chairman :
Nigel Keen Nigel Keen, Non-Executive Chairman, joined the Board in 1999. He has a degree in engineering from Cambridge University, is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and has been involved in the formation and development of high technology businesses for more than thirty years. He is Chairman of The Laird Group plc,  Bioquell Plc and Deltex Medical Group plc.He is also a Non-Executive Director of ISIS Innovation. (Oxford Instruments and Oxford University maintain a close relationship and the Group's Directors are strongly represented on the Board of ISIS Innovation, the University's intellectual property company.)

Executive Directors :
Jonathan Flint

Jonathan Flint CBE, became Chief Executive in April 2005. He has a BSc in Physics from Imperial College and an MBA from Southampton University. He is a fellow of the Institute of Physics, the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Engineering and Technology. He sits on the Council of the Institute of Physics and is a member of advisory panels to the UK Science and Technology Facilities Council.  Prior to Oxford Instruments, he held senior management positions within Vislink plc, BAE Systems, GEC Marconi and Matra-Space Systems.  He was awarded a CBE in the 2012 New Year's Honours for services to science and business.

Kevin Boyd Kevin Boyd, joined Oxford Instruments in August 2006 as Group Finance Director. He has a BEng in Electronic and Information Engineering from Queen's University, Belfast and is a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Accountant, having qualified with Arthur Andersen. Prior to joining Oxford Instruments he was Group Finance Director of Radstone Technology, Finance Director of Siroyan Ltd. and Finance Director of Dowty Seals Ltd, a subsidiary of the TI Group (now Smiths Group plc). He is a Non-Executive Director of Guidance Ltd.
Charles Holroyd Charles Holroyd, was appointed to the Board as Executive Director in November 2005, having joined Oxford Instruments in November 1999, and is responsible for Group Business Development. He has a BSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bristol University and an MBA from INSEAD. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institutiion of Engineering and Technology. Previously he held senior management positions within United Industries plc, B Elliott lnc, Bowthorpe plc and Chloride Group plc.

Non-Executive Directors :
Professor Sir Michael Brady Professor Sir Michael Brady, Deputy Chairman and Independent Non-Executive Director, joined the Board in 1995 and is Emeritus Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology and Biology at the University of Oxford, having recently retired as BP Professor of Information Engineering. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society, of the Royal Academy of Engineering and of the Academy of Medical Sciences, and a Commissioner of the Commission for the Royal Exhibition of 1851. . He is a founding Director of Guidance Ltd, Mirada Medical Ltd, and Matakina Ltd (a New Zealand based company), a Director of Dexela Ltd,  ISIS Innovations Limited and a Non Executive Director of Acuitas Ltd.
Michael Hughes Professor Michael Hughes OBE, Senior Independent Non-Executive Director, joined the Board in November 2004. He is Chairman of EA Technology Limited, and a Non-Executive Director of South Staffordshire Water Ltd.  Previously he held senior managements positions in GEC plc and was CEO of  Midlands Electricity plc  until 2002 and then Executive Vice President of GPU International Operations Group.
Bernard Taylor

Bernard Taylor, Independent Non-Executive Director, joined the Board in 2002 and is Vice Chairman of Evercore Partners. He is a member of The Council of the University of Oxford and is Chairman of the University's Audit Committee. He is Chairman of ISIS Innovation Ltd and a Commissioner of the Commission for the Royal Exhibition of 1851.  He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and an Honorary Fellow of St. John's College, Oxford.

Jock Lennox

Jock Lennox, Independent Non-Executive Director, joined the Board on April 1st 2009.  He is Non-Executive Director of Enquest plc, Hill & Smith Holdings plc, a member of the Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (chairing the Qualification Board) and is Chairman of the Tall Ships Youth Trust.  He is also a member of the Advisory Board of Alchemy, the private equity firm.  He was a Senior Audit Partner at Ernst & Young until April 2009.
