Dr Silvano De Franceschi, 2005 Nicholas Kurti Science Prize Winner

Young Italian Scientist awarded the 2005 Nicholas Kurti Prize.

Dr. Silvano De Franceschi is the inaugural, 2005 recipient of the Nicholas Kurti Prize. He is recognised for a record of sustained achievements in the field of quantum transport. Among his most notable contributions are his post doctoral activities at Delft University of Technology that resulted in highly innovative results on Kondo effects in semiconductor nanostructures and his research work on hybrid superconductor-semiconductor nanostructures both as a graduate student at Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa and as a post doctorate researcher at Delft University of Technology.

The Nicholas Kurti Prize Committee is chaired by Dr Jacques Flouquet, Directeur de Recherche CNRS Grenoble and and is comprised of seven senior scientists from European Universities. The Nicholas Kurti Prize winner receives Euro 8,000, a trophy and certificate along with the opportunity to present their research at a relevant conference of their choice.

This award complements the other prizes sponsored by Oxford Instruments, the Sir Martin Wood Prize (Japan), , The Lee Osheroff Richardson Prize (North America) and the Fritz London Memorial Prize, to be awarded at this years International Low Temperature Conference LT24.
