Dissolution of osmotic ‘push-pull’ delivery tablet using MARAN-iP

Osmotic dissolution using MARAN-iP

The osmotic ‘push-pull’ tablet is a novel type of formulation which once in the gastrointestinal tract has a dissolution mechanism that has been shown to be particularly useful for poorly water soluble drugs. This tablet is built up from two layers. The 'pull' refers to the water osmotically transported through the semi-permeable membrane into the tablet. The 'push' is derived from the absorbing polymer which swells in contact with water.

Experimental Conditions:

  • Dissolution medium - phosphate buffer pH7.4
  • Flow rate 16ml/min at 37ºC
  • Closed loop configuration
