Cryogen storage and transfer

Solutions for liquid helium (LHe) and liquid nitrogen (LN2) storage and transfer.

Liquid helium (LHe)

Liquid helium storage and transport is normally provided by vacuum insulated non-magnetic stainless steel vessels ("dewars"). These Helium Storage Dewars are available with capacities 30 –1000 litres.

Normal, short duration liquid helium transfer uses vacuum insulated stainless steel transfer tubes (or "siphons"). These are suitable for flow rates around 1 litre/minute and are available in rigid, demountable or flexible options.

• LHe Transfer Tube TTN2 series

For controlled helium flow over long periods choose a transfer tube fitted with a flow control (needle) valve. Needle valves may be automatically controlled using a suitable temperature controller.

• Lightweight LHe Transfer Tubes TTL series

A wide range of dewar fittings and other accessories is available including Gas Flow Controllers and suitable oil-free pumps.

Liquid nitrogen (LN2)

Several options are available for Nitrogen Storage Dewars:

• Larger volumes (25-200 litres) are best stored in narrow-neck vacuum insulated non-magnetic stainless steel dewars. These are lightweight and efficient.
• Open-neck dewars are often used for sample storage
• Self-pressurising dewars are ideal for rapid cryogen delivery
• For short term handling of smaller quantities of liquid nitrogen (up to 50 litres), a range of open top "bucket" dewars is available in stainless steel, aluminium or polyetheylene options.

Accessories

Accessories for the above include transport trolleys, stainless steel flexible transfer hoses, gauges and a wide range of adaptors and fittings.
