Dilution refrigerators - continuous cooling to below 5 milliKelvin temperatures  

Dilution-Refrigerators-less-than-10-25mK-(1).jpgOxford Instruments' dilution refrigerators provide continuous cooling below 5 millikelvin (mK) temperatures. They are used for a wide range of research applications in quantum computing, spintronics, quantum transport, mechanical resonators, photonics, astronomy, neutron scattering and much more.

We offer traditional “wet” systems operating in a liquid helium environment as well as “dry” systems, where the cold environment is provided by a closed cycle mechanical cooler.

Both wet and dry refrigerators can be integrated with a solenoid or vector rotate superconducting magnet, a sample exchange mechanism, high-frequency signal lines, sample manipulators, windows, optical fibres, magnetic shields and many other experimental options.

Cryofree® dilution refrigerators

With a base temperature below 5 mK over a 430 mm diameter sample plate it is particular well suited for large-scale quantum computing applications

Wet dilution refrigerators

  • The KelvinoxMX range of wet dilution refrigerators was first introduced in 1988 and designed for seamless integration into magnetic and cryogenic environments. Its range of inserts features interchangeable secondary inserts to allow the system to be configured for a wide range of experimental applications
  • The KelvinoxHA is an insert for large wet systems providing additional experimental access
  • The KelvinoxTLM allows rapid cycling of experiments by enabling the sample holder to be loaded directly into the 3He / 4He liquid in the mixing chamber
  • The KelvinoxJT is a small, dipstick-style, dilution refrigerator which features a Joule-Thomson condensation stage, which enables it to operate in any 4 K environment like a liquid helium transport dewar, a VTI, or a Cryofree Teslatron or Spectromag

Helium3 refrigerators

 

Less than 250 milliKelvin temperatures can be attained using 3He refrigerators. We manufacture both 3He inserts for traditional 'wet' cryostats and 'dry' systems which use mechanical coolers, such as pulse tube coolers, to provide the cold environment. The systems employ highly efficient cryogenic sorption pump technology to achieve high pumping speeds at the 3He pot. These are single shot systems.

Additionally, continuous 3He systems are available which employ room temperature pumps to circulate the 3He in a closed cycle. Here, continuous operation at cooling powers greater than 60 mW at 600 mK can be attained.

Both wet and dry systems can be integrated with high field superconducting magnets.

  • HelioxVL is a dipstick-style 3He refrigerator with an integrated cryogenic soprtion pump
  • HelioxVT is a dipstick-style 3He refrigerator with an integrated cryogenic sorption pump designed to operate in the cold environment provided by either a 30 mm or 50 mm variable temperature insert
