Cryogenic dewars

Our superconducting magnets and/or helium cooled ultra low temperature inserts require a liquid helium dewar to operate.

The following dewars are available:

  • Vapour shielded dewar - cheaper but its helium consumption is higher:

The consumption will depend on the low temperature inserts used but typical helium consumption is:

- Dewar fitted with baffle set :< 450 cc/hr

- Dewar fitted with MSS (magnet support system), magnet and VTI insert: < 545 cc/hr

- Dewar fitted with MSS (magnet support system), magnet and HelioxVL insert: < 545 cc/hr

- Dewar fitted with MSS (magnet support system), magnet and KelvinoxMX insert: < 595 cc/hr

- Dewar fitted with MSS (magnet support system), magnet and KelvinoxTLM insert: < 695 cc/hr

  • Liquid nitrogen shielded low loss dewar - intermediary solution with lower helium consumption:

- Liquid helium consumption with insert fitted approx. 350 cc/hr (static, with zero flow through insert)

- Liquid nitrogen consumption less than 470 cm3/hr

  • Helium recondensing dewar, IntegraAC: Minimise helium consumption and maximise experimental time. Zero static consumption. Uses a pulse tube refrigerator to recondense the helium which would otherwise be vented off the system:

- Liquid helium consumption with VTI 51/30 fitted 0 cc/hr(static, with 100 cc/hr flow through insert)

- Liquid helium consumption with HelioxVL fitted 0 cc/hr(static, with 100 cc/hr flow through insert)

- Liquid helium consumption with HelioxTL fitted 0 cc/hr(static, with 50 cc/hr flow through insert)

- Liquid helium consumption with KelvinoxMX fitted 0 cc/hr(static, with 100-150 cc/hr flow through insert)
